Pitney Bowes Dimensional Weight

This document provides an overview on how dimensional weight works with Pitney Bowes.

What is Dimensional Weight?

Dimensional Weight is a pricing structure that compares a package's dimensions against the package's weight.

Info About Dimensional Weight

Most national carriers apply DIM weight for all package sizes; however, the USPS only uses DIM weight for packages over one cubic foot (or 1,728 cubic inches) for Priority mail, Priority Mail Express, and Parcel Select Packages.

Retailers whose packages are light weight and larger in size will often pay the DIM weight price instead of the actual weight price.

If a package's calculated Dimensional weight is more than the actual weight, the Dimensional weight rate will be applied.

Dimension Weight in DesktopShipper

If dimensional weight is applied to the order by PB, this will not be visible at the time of label creation.

Note: If there is a discrepancy between the rate at the time of label creation VS the actual rate charged, it is worth checking to see if the charge is for dimensional weight.

Formula for calucating DIM Weight: (length x width x height)/166
