OSM Hazmat Code Mappings

This document provides an overview on OSM Hazmat Class indicators and DesktopShipper.

What are Hazardous Goods Mappings?

OSM has different classes of hazmat materials (dangerous goods). The purpose of classifying dangerous goods is to provide a standardized system for identifying substances or articles that pose a risk to people, property, or the environment.

The classification of dangerous goods is crucial for their safe transportation, storage, and handling. These classes have their own specific fields in DesktopShipper.

DesktopShipper Hazmat Fields and the OSM Class they Correspond to

Column 1 of the table below shows the DesktopShipper internal code for different Hazmat classes.

Column 2 of the table below shows the standardized OSM code each DesktopShipper code corresponds to.

Column 3 of the table below shows the USPS standardized class that corresponds to each OSM code.

Note: The Hazmat information for an order being shipped with dangerous goods (Hazmat Materials) will be present on the OSM Manifest when End of Day is performed. The OSM Hazmat code is sent to OSM in the End of Day data file.
